About The Propaty
This 50-year-old building was originally constructed as a dormitory for nurses.
It is a three-story reinforced concrete structure using a wall-frame system (“kabe-shiki” in Japanese).
Wall-frame construction is known for its exceptional earthquake resistance, making it a reliable and sturdy design.
However, please note that the height of the interior doorways is slightly lower than today’s standard.
If you are tall, we recommend being mindful of your head when passing through doorways.
The building is currently undergoing a full renovation, with careful planning and design work spanning over a year to optimize it for share house living.
The exterior walls have been coated with the latest hollow acrylic bead paint, offering excellent thermal insulation and heat shielding.
The rooftop has also been treated with a waterproof coating that provides both insulation and heat resistance.
To improve energy efficiency and comfort indoors, additional insulation has been installed behind the walls of the 1st-floor living/dining/kitchen (LDK) area and in the ceilings on the 3rd floor.
All windows—except those in the stairwell—have been replaced with high-performance insulating sashes or fitted with inner storm windows.
In addition, much of the flooring has been upgraded to a dry double-floor system to reduce the cold from the concrete slab during winter.
Most of the walls and ceilings have been generously coated with natural lime plaster (shikkui).
Since the application was done as a DIY project, we kindly ask for your understanding regarding the finish—it may not be perfect in appearance.
Shikkui is known for its excellent humidity control and mold resistance, helping to create a healthier indoor environment.
Each private room is equipped with a 24-hour ventilation system featuring a high-performance dust filter, as well as an air conditioner with built-in air purification—ensuring clean air and proper ventilation at all times.
Additionally, the partition walls between adjacent rooms have been filled with sound-absorbing and soundproofing materials, offering greater privacy and comfort.
Neighborhood Guide
Just 50 meters to the east, you'll find Tanaka Shrine, which is believed to be the ancestral shrine of the Tanaka family name—one of the most common surnames in Japan.
With a history spanning over a thousand years, the shrine is surrounded by a lush forest that creates a peaceful, almost healing atmosphere for visitors.
Within a 5 to 15-minute walk, you’ll find Kyoto University and Kyoto University of the Arts, making this a vibrant area where students, artists, and researchers gather.
The neighborhood around Satore is filled with cafés, restaurants, supermarkets, coin laundries, and public bathhouses, providing everything you need for comfortable daily living.
By bicycle or on the local single-car train line, you can easily visit many of Kyoto’s most famous tourist spots.
Additionally, the nearby terminal station, just a 15-minute walk away, offers convenient access to central Osaka.

About Management
As we restart this share house, our entire family is involved not only in the building’s design and interior renovations (walls, floors) but also in the planning, creation, and management of this website.
We also intend to be as hands-on as possible in the daily operation and maintenance of the share house. In particular, we hope to provide support for international students as they begin their new lives in Japan.
By managing Share House Satore, we aim to help young people build new connections in a new country and community. We sincerely hope this experience enriches their future lives.
Moreover, supporting them in this way gives meaning and purpose to our own lives, and we deeply wish that it will continue to be a source of fulfillment for us as a family.
